The 100 Greatest Rock Bassists Details
Review "Loved reading The 100 Greatest Rock Bassists for many reasons. It has the obvious and the obscure to some, and doing a book on the 4-string perked my interest. Greg gets it, it's not just about the technical end, it's about influential and the overall body of work - seeing names like Paul Simonon, Dee Dee Ramone, and James Jamerson validates that he got it right!" --Keith Roth (Host of Ozzy's Boneyard and Hair Nation on Sirius Radio, host of Electric Ballroom radio show)"Even if someone doesn't agree with the list, if nothing else, it might inspire them to pull out the old music backlog and listen to some old favorite, or listen to a player they never checked out previously." --Screamer Magazine Read more

Greg Prato has done it again!...Proving himself to be one of the most thoughtful (and prolific!!) rock critics working today, he takes on the task of suggesting rock's best bassists. For many of us who love the instrument, is a LLOOONG time coming!...Not simply your running list of faves, Greg covers the players and instruments from soup to nuts, and hits on some surprising players. You find out what instrument your favorite player uses; standout songs to check out if you might be unfamiliar; and a list of bassists in the same vein. You literally could use this as the definitive source to delve into rock music's most forgotten and underrated instrument, as well as obscure and and challenging bands and players, and spend days (MONTHS!) getting wrapped up in it all...And for those who might disagree with the top 101 bassists, Greg surely covers your favorite in the 'Honorable Mentions" list...So when I cried that Rob Wright (NoMeansNo) wasn't on the main list, i jumped for joy that he wasn't forgotten!...And, in case this isn't enough, there are rare photos, interviews, and even some blank lines to add your favorite player...if you can think of any others...with such exhaustive research, you might have to leave them blank...or add yourself as Greg suggests!...It's about time the bass got some love. We all should be thankful someone as thorough, entertaining, and knowledgeable as Greg Prato is the chap who gave it some!...HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
